I have always been an active person with a keen interest in sport from a young age.  Urged by my pilates instructor while living in Australia, I undertook the Polestar Pilates Studio course. Two years and over 440 hours or pilates later, I became certified. Polestar Pilates is recognised world wide as one of the leaders in Pilates research, education and instruction.  The Polestar curriculum, designed by physical therapist and Orthopedic Certified Specialist Brent Anderson, is based on a scientific foundation of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motor control, and integrates scientific research findings in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science. Anna is the founder and owner of Thrive Pilates in Wellington, New Zealand.

I am fascinated by movement and increasing peoples' ability to move more efficiently and have been teaching ever since.  I love working with all  types of bodies, injuries and goals though I am especially interested in working with athletes  who are keen to improve their performance and prevent injury. 

I have also learned, performed and taught circus aerial silks. I'm lucky to have been coached by some of the most talented performers in New Zealand and spent two weeks in Sydney being trained by a Cirque Du Soleil performer. Whilst living in Australia, I spent time learning aerial hoop, flying trapeze and some floor gymnastics. It's important to try new things!

FOOD

Around the age of 22, while living in Canada, I transitioned into a vegetarian diet, mainly for environmental reasons. A few years after that, I became fully vegan. My reasons for being vegan are an equal mix of environmental concerns, improving my health, minimizing my chance of disease, choosing not to contribute towards the inhumane treatment of animals and improving my athletic performance. My body performs best with this way of eating and I feel very at peace knowing nothing had to be killed for my meal.

OTHER STUFF

I currently work as an Ambulance Officer for Wellington Free Ambulance. I worked in the skydive industry straight out of school, have been a massage therapist, managed health stores and been a representative for health brand, Lifestream. I volunteer for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and have done so for a few years now. Some other charities I support are Black Fish, Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ and Global Concern. I'll pretty much support anyone who's working towards equal rights for everyone and in fact, all living beings. Oh, and I love ALL things circus!!
